Don Cushman
Don earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from Indiana University and taught public school music early in his instructional career. Subsequently he earned his Doctorate in Education in Instructional Technology at IU. After his relocation to Jackson Hole in 1983 he became a founding member of a brass quintet, which became the impetus for him (along with Tom Ninnemann) to start the Jackson Hole Community Band in 1989. He also conducted the choir at Jackson's First Baptist Church for 7 years and the choir at the Presbyterian Church for 4 years. He led the JHCB for its first 16 1/2 years until his retirement in 2005. He continues to play in this band and the community jazz band, as well as occasionally filling in as conductor.
Jason Fritts
Jason joined the Jackson Hole Community Band as assistant conductor and saxophonist in the fall of 2007 then took the role as full time conductor and music director at the beginning of 2008. Jason has been in the Jackson Hole area since 1992 and conducts the Jazz Foundation of Jackson Hole's 20-piece Big Band. He studied saxophone at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts as well as at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he earned a Master's Degree in music. He is a member of local favorites Jackson 6, Big Phatty and Global Review. He directed the music of "Hair," a Jackson Community Theater production in 2007. He is an active performer and teacher in the Jackson area.
Jennifer Levanduski
Jennifer Levanduski earned her Bachelor of Music from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in 1994. She studied clarinet with Dr. Michael Cavin and conducting with Dr. Gary Sousa. After teaching several successful band programs around the Houston and Dallas area for 13 years, she moved to Jackson Hole in 2005 with her husband and new baby.
Once in Jackson, Jennifer quickly joined the clarinet section in the band. From there, she was asked to conduct as well. In addition to her involvement with the JHCB, she also helped teach the woodwinds at Jackson Hole Middle and High Schools as part of the Grand Teton "Tune Up!" program for two years.
Jennifer and her family currently reside in Downers Grove, Illinois where she continues to persue a career in music education.
Dennis Reese
Dennis began his musical training in his hometown of Brentwood, California, in 1961. Following high school he completed college in 1972 with a B.A. in Music Education and two advanced degrees in performance (M.M. and D.M.) in 1976. He has studied with Dr. Roscoe M. Booth, Univ. of Nevada, Reno, Dr. Donald Reinburg of the San Francisco Symphony, Gerard Swartz of the Boston Symphony, and Adolph "Bud" Herseth of the Chicago Symphony. Mr. Reese recently completed 35-years in CA in public education and continues to be involved in the Lincoln County School District # 2 in Afton, WY. His appointment as Conductor for the JHCB has fostered opportunities to develop new friendships and to share music. "I appreciate the unique talent of each member of the band and the commitment they demonstrate toward excellence and the development of musicianship through performance."
Al Young
Al Young graduated from Miami University in 1970 with a Bachelor’s in Music Ed. She taught jr. high band and chorus in Driggs, ID for 15 years. She has been involved in the Jackson Hole Music Community for many years.
Al has had many director experiences in our community over the years and continues to direct some groups regularly. In 1988, Al joined the JH Chorale. Al became the assistant director and then the director when Bob Partridge retired in 2003. She started a Sweet Adeline’s Quartet called ‘The Youngsters’ in 2003 and sings bass in that quartet.
In 1990, she joined the JH Community Band. Al became the assistant director under Don Cushman and then took over as director when he retired in 2005. Al was the band’s conductor for 1 year.
Al also directed the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra for 2 years and around the same time period was the director of the Driggs Community Choir that performed the Messiah for 10 years.
Al’s stage accomplishments include director of the musical INTO THE WOODS in 2003 and a cast member of HAIR in 2007.
In the mid 90’s, Al became a member of the Jackson Hole Brass Quintet in which she still plays trombone on a regular basis.
In addition to directing musical organizations, Al has given private vocal lessons and taught adult music theory classes.
A volunteer organization playing concert band music for recreation and community service in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
We maintain a group of about 30 musicians, some year round, some seasonal, and have had as many as 48 on stage.
We have many muisician who play music with us only a few time a year and others who moved on to warmer places.
