Long-time friend and former
member of the Jackson Hole Community Band, Lynn Williams, died
at the age of 68. Lynn played percussion and served as Band president
before retiring from teaching and moving to Riverton, Wyoming.
He will be missed.

Funeral services for Joseph L."Lynn"
Williams of Riverton were held Monday, Jan. 22, at United Presbyterian
Church with Rev. Grayson officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Lynn Williams died Thursday morning, Jan. 11,
at Wind River Healthcare in Riverton. He was 68 years old. Joseph
L. "Lynn" Williams was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Laramie,
the son of Joseph Aaron Williams and Helene (Vogt) Williams. He
grew up in Green River and taught there for two years before moving
to California for eight years. He then returned to Rock Springs,
where he taught for two years, then moved to Jackson and taught
for 27 years. He moved to Riverton after retiring from teaching
in Jackson.
Mr. Williams was a U.S. military veteran, serving
with the Army during the Korean War. He married Beverly Horton
on Oct. 30, 1954, in Green River. They were members of the Presbyterian
church. He was a school teacher and coach for 42 years and was
elected to the Wyoming Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He received
the Bill Farthing Distinguished Service Award in 2000. Lynn Williams
was named National High School Men's Track Coach in 1984, 1987
and 1990, and National High School Women's Track Coach in 1982.
He served as district committee chairman for District 7 of the
National High School Coaches Association.
Lynn Williams was a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Order of the Eastern
Star and Jesters. Mr. Williams worked with the Shrine Cutter Races
in Jackson, served as chairman of the Fremont County Shrine Club
Circus in Riverton last year, officiated at football and basketball
games and served as chairman for the Shrine Bowl, where he also
coached. His hobbies included golf, woodworking and making custom
golf clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; sons, Tim
Williams and his wife, Patty, of Bozeman, Mont., and Tracy Williams
of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a daughter, Tina Marie Bockman and her
husband, David, of Ephrata, Wash.; six grandchildren; a brother,
Darl Williams, and his wife, Helen, of Edwards, Mo.; and a sister,
Ruth Nelson, of Lake Port, Calif. He was preceded in death by
his parents and two brothers, Homer and Carl.
